FAQ
Why do you recommend sloping walls?
Our barbecue lodges with sloping walls have the same footprint as those with straight walls, but are more comfortable to lean against and provide additional space inside. Perhaps more importantly, they are more attractive and unique than the straight-sided models.
Where can I see a fully operational lodge?
On the southern edge of Exmoor in Somerset. Contact us to arrange a time to visit or come to one of our open days.
Can I install the lodge myself?
In order to obtain the 2 year warranty on your bbq lodge, it has to be installed by us.
How do I care for my Barbeque lodge?
To protect your lodge from all that the British weather has in store, we recommend that you protect the outside of your lodge with Sadolin, Ronseal or Cuprinol using at least 2 coats initially and then an annual coat thereafter.
The floor inside can be protected to make it easier to clean but must be a breathable varnish or coating as it will may get wet from time to time and will need to breath to dry out.
The interior of the bbq hut can be left natural or stained to your own taste.
We would be happy to arrange for your barbecue lodge to be treated prior to assembly if you so wish (Please ask for a quote).
Are the garden lodges easy to heat?
The barbecue will heat the garden lodge very quickly and heat will be retained for some time after the fire died down.
What do I burn on the fire?
It is usual to start with barbecue charcoal, however ordinary dry logs split up small (ash is best)can be burnt once the fire has become established.
Why do you source from Finland?
During our search for a supplier, we found that the quality of timber from Finland was far superior than to that used by manufacturers in other countries. This is due to the high latitude of the arctic timber forests – within the arctic circle with its long, cold winters the trees grow for only 5 months of the year. This ensures that the timber is denser and hence is therefore much more durable. We believe that the quality of our barbecue lodges justifies the higher prices compared to some cheaper imports.
Do I need planning permission for my barbecue lodge?
In most cases you should not need planning permission, however we advise that you check with your local planning authority.

What kind of foundations need to be prepared?
A concrete base with air vents needs to be in place prior to erecting the cabin. Click here for details
Is there a warranty on the cabin?
Yes, We offer a parts guarantee of 2 years on any lodge that has been constructed by us and has been properly treated with wood stains and sealant.
Will I be able to stand up in the cabin?
Yes, unless you are extremely tall! (The Hare has a lower door and may require you to stoop to enter)
Do the cabins fill with smoke?
The bbq lodges can be slightly smoky when first lit or if the weather is windy - over large logs can also cause the bbq to smoke. If there is any smoke it is more of a campfire atmosphere and is not unpleasant. The chimney and air-vents remove the smoke from inside.
