Sue’s barbecue hints
Before you begin any cooking on the barbecue, it is a good idea to brush the grill lightly with oil; this will help to prevent the food from sticking to the grill.
Flare-ups
Flare-ups are caused by fat, juices and marinades dripping onto the fire. Sudden flames leap up at the food causing it to blacken and giving it a nasty taste. Keep a plant spray filled with water nearby to douse any flames during cooking.
Cleaning the barbecue
Cleaning the grill is best done whilst it’s still hot. Brush the cooking grill with a wire brush allowing the food residues to drop off into the dying fire. If the food doesn’t burn off, remove the grills and clean with hot soapy water.
