BBQ huts are mainly used to create a unique extra space for socialising, entertaining and relaxing but we are regularly asked if they can they also be used for guests to sleep in.
Lift up sleeping platforms
Each Lodge has wooden bench seats, some of which have lift-out sections designed to double as a sleeping platform. If you intend to use a bench seat for sleeping, we recommend our premium cushions all of which are hand-made to perfectly fit the bench and platform. The number of lift up sleeping platforms varies depending on whether your BBQ hut is six or eight sided:
- The Hare – 7m2 – 6 sides – 3 lift up sleeping platforms
- The Fox – 10m2 – 6 sides – 3 lift up sleeping platforms
- The Husky – 14m2 – 8 sides – 4 lift up sleeping platforms
- The Reindeer – 17m2 – 8 sides – 4 lift up sleeping platforms
If you decide to add an extra room to your BBQ hut (an option for The Fox, The Husky and The Reindeer) this will reduce the number of sleeping platforms in your hut.
Extra rooms
If you want the option of a permanent sleeping area in your hut, adding a single or double width extra room (or even joining two huts together) could be the perfect solution. Extra rooms can be added to The Fox, The Husky and The Reindeer and are a great way to enhance your hut. Extra rooms have a variety of uses including a bar, sleeping area, kitchen, shower space or storage. Depending on the size of your chosen hut you can fit a single bed or double bed in an extra room.
Remember to check planning permission rules
Most BBQ huts do not require planning permission prior to installation as their construction (subject to certain conditions) is allowable under permitted development. Permitted development is given, in part, because they are classed as movable structures which can be used for occasional overnight stays for friends and family. Should you want to use your BBQ hut for frequent overnight guests (or you are an accommodation provider looking to let your BBQ hut on a rental basis) we highly recommend you consult with your local planning office.
