Building a base for your BBQ Lodge

Building your barbecue lodge or hut on the right type of base will ensure the correct ventilation and use of your BBQ. There are a variety of options to choose from when it comes to base type and material dependent on your site location and requirements.

Pegged base

Pegged bases are most commonly chosen by our customers. They are cost effective, easy to install and, with their composite posts, highly durable.  We can install a pegged base for you ourselves and manufacture and build them prior to your Lodge installation day. They require no site preparation works prior to their build and can even be utilised on slightly uneven ground. High quality composite posts are concreted into the ground with tanalised timbers sited on top. The base is then simply covered with a membrane and your BBQ Lodge positioned directly on top.

Concrete base

A concrete base is a very permanent solution and does require 4" soil pipes to be interred for ventilation purposes. It is absolutely essential that the concrete base is exactly the same size and shape as your Barbecue cabin or lodge.  Concrete bases tend to be the most expensive option and can cost in the region of £1200 - £3000 dependent on Lodge size and site location.  We do not build concrete bases but, if you are considering one, we can provide lots of information to your contractor and / or recommend a contractor we have worked with previously.

Wooden base

If you have a completely flat and firm surface a wooden base may be an option for you. The surface area must be at least 1.5 metres larger than the base of your Lodge.  Good examples of appropriate surfaces for a wooden base are patios or areas of hard standing.  Wooden bases do not require soil pipe installation and we can provide tanalised wooden bases the right size for your chosen Lodge.
